कलानां प्रथमं चित्रम्; धर्मार्थकाममोक्षदं मांगल्यप्रदं चैव तद्गृहे यत्र प्रतिष्ठितम्।
This sacred verse holds the key to the heart of Chitrasopanam Art Foundation.
A painting, whether at home or elsewhere, brings a sense of blessing and positivity. More precious than gold or jewels, art connects us to the deeper beauty of life and the universe. It calms the mind, lifts the spirit, and fills a space with warmth and meaning. A beautiful painting can ease anxiety, spark joy, and bring harmony to a space.
At Chitrasopanam, we honor this timeless truth—where there is art, there is grace, and where grace dwells, the soul feels at home.
Chitrasopanam Art Foundation is an art school started with a mission to appreciate, conserve and promote Kerala murals (Sopana chitrakala) using natural colours and working on natural surfaces. Sasi Edavarad is a Kerala mural artist who hails from Perambra, a small town in Kozhikode district of Kerala, India. He has many temple and
public art projects to his credit.
After completing his basic formal education,
he joined Universal Arts School of Fine Arts, Kozhikode. During his stint there, the Indian murals had a huge influence on him. On the advice of one of his mentors, he enrolled himself to the Guruvayur Institute of Mural Painting in 1996. As part of his curriculum, he had the opportunity of visiting many temples, palaces and sites of ancient mural paintings. He began to study these paintings closely to understand their nuances and to further his knowledge of this unique art form.
With the sole purpose of furthering this authentic legacy, Sasi Edavarad began teaching Kerala mural painting in the year 2005. He and his team of artists have been travelling to different temples and institutions, trying to restore the traditional glory of Kerala mural paintings.
His mission is to spread the importance of this art form, to familiarise the younger generation with this artform, to ensure that it is preserved in its pristine form and to promote research in this field.
